Duties: Reports to Chief City Prosecutor and is primarily responsible for preparing and prosecuting cases in municipal court on behalf of City of Charleston by performing the following duties, among others: Gathers and analyzes case evidence; interviews witnesses to ascertain facts of case; works with police officers in developing case. Reviews pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to case. Prepares and responds to motions; appears at bond hearings; and prosecutes nonjury and jury cases. Interacts with the judges, clerks, courtroom personnel, defense lawyers, and others on a daily basis. Performs other duties as required.
Requires: Juris Doctorate law degree (J.D.) and a minimum of four (4) years prosecution experience. Applicant must have experience as lead prosecutor in jury trials. Experience in state and municipal court preferred. Strong writing skills are required. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software. Valid SC Driver’s License. Must be South Carolina Bar certified and courtroom certified.
